learning pet care
Seems like the old hermit crab just got an upgrade. I found this cute hermit habitat on-line at Bed Bath and Beyond. Looks like a great way to make that boring little blob more interesting. Hermit care is a great inexpensive way to earn a pet care badge. You can also do a great art project by having the girls decorate the shells. Paint them, add sequins and bling, stickers, you name it. Just make sure it is secured throughly.
Scouting Sites, Crafts, & Tips
I have been asked more about my scouting knowledge than any other thing I can think of. On this page you will find many links to helpful sites. Some affiliated with scouting and some are helpful sites for activities you may plan for your troop. All the sites listed are safe sites but I can not vouch for any links that may be connected with these sites. Please check carefully before recommending them to other people. All of the clipart can be copied. Just right click and click the "Save picture as".
I have personally taken my troop to all these destinations ( and more, my girls loved to travel. You thought I was exaggerating when I said we've been all over Florida, didn't you ) and found all of these trips perfect for scouts. Some better for younger scouts, some for older but most suitable for all ages. By the way did I mention we made our own money for our trips!

Out of State TripsGSUSA-Savannah, Ga.- check out the trolley tours, the belly dncing, haunted houses horse and buugy tours, participate in a civil war reenactment at the fort, stay at a bed and breakfast, and home tours galore.
3 day cruise to the Bahammas- We went cave tubing and cliff diving in Belize, explored ruins in Cozumel, and went snorkeling in the Bahamas; all on 3 day cruises! (check out the cruise schedules on my travel page.) Boston- To me this is one of the best value trips I have ever taken. If you go on Scout weeks it can even be less expensive. The 2 mile historic walk is wonderful and many of the sites are free. You can buy a city pass for 40$ that gets you into just about every venue in town including the aquarium as well as food discounts.(If you go to Philly don't bother with the city pass, it doesn't cover much.) We loved everything about this city. History is contagious here. NYC- Go for a weekend theatre trip. The Mariott on Times Square has good group rates and a great central location. See the Statue, go to 2 matinees, Eat at a deli, and a NY Pizza place, and take a buggy ride through central park. If you have a younger group go to FAO Shwartz. Give yourself one full day to shop. You have your basic G.S. group NYC experience on the cheap. Don't be afraid to take the subways. They will save you oodles of time and they are safe. Wash. D.C.- Scout week, Special discounts and programs to see the sights and have unique experiences. White water raft rides in Atlanta, Ga.- You can visit Six Flags or the south's answer to Mt. Rushmore, and then ride the rapids from a catagory3-5 raft ride. |
